Hammer is a free, open-source story editor designed specifically for novelists and creative writers. Built to help you craft compelling narratives and detailed worlds, Hammer combines modular story management with robust offline capabilities. Writers can easily reorder scenes, manage an integrated encyclopedia that tracks which scenes your characters appear in, organize timelines, take notes, and monitor writing stats to reach their goals.

One of Hammer's standout aspects is its commitment to data ownership and privacy: your work is stored entirely as plain text files directly on your own device. Whether you want to send scenes to an editor for revisions, share your story with beta readers, or work completely offline, Hammer supports your workflow. It is available across Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS, with an optional sync server to keep your work up to date across all your devices.
